Southpointe poised for two new buildings
Washington County Authority board announced two options for purchase of property for office building in Southpointe II.  Fletcher Industries, a high tech manufacturer and exporter of machinery is looking at 1.8 Acres along Woodcliff Drive Extension.
Afotofmis, a hotel owner is looking at 2 acres beyond Horizon Vue Drive.  Both are 'options' only but most likely are to be purchased.  They will be owner occupied buildings.

Southpointe Development LP  is to begin site work
Southpointe Dev. LP is to begin site work for construction of Main street in the proposed Town Center.  This is to begin grading the site.  This will be for office space, town square park, residential structures and retail buildings with offices above.

Old Western Center building may be demolished.
The 82 year old building requires over $10 million to bring it to modern code.  No one has offered to buy the 30,000 Sq. ft. building which has been on the market or 2 years. I. Robert Kimball and Associates proposed $29,625 to demolish the structure. Plans are to save the dome structure and use it as part of the park structure.

Good Luck to Level 3, our new chamber member.

WASHINGTON — Level 3 Communications Inc. is buying Global Crossing Ltd. for $2 billion, joining two major long-distance telecommunications networks that carry massive amounts of Internet and other data traffic in the U.S. and internationally.

Both Level 3 and Global Crossing operate vast, long-haul, fiber-optic networks used by other telecom carriers, corporations and government agencies. The combined company's reach would extend to 70 countries on three continents.

Level 3 Chief Executive Jim Crowe said the deal will help the companies keep up with ballooning growth in video, social networking and other bandwidth-hungry traffic traveling over networks around the globe.  See Level 3's ad on the back cover of our Southpointe Chamber Magazine (Map & Directory).   Level 3 offers broadband internet to Southpointe companies.  Contact Rick Kells at    412-770-9241

SOUTHPOINTE CONSTRUCTION ON SCHEDULE WITH NEW LANES.  The road work which will widen 5,400 feet of the park's main road, also calls for the addition of turning lanes and traffic signals at several intersections.

The work will add a lane in each direction of Southpointe Boulevard from Technology Drive south near the Southpointe Chamber office (Bailey building) to the railroad tracks near the park's south entrance.

The upgrade will include the addition of four turning lanes and a traffic signal at that corner as well as four turning lanes and a signal at its intersection with Consol Drive. A turning lane and traffic signal also will be added at the intersection with Technology Drive south. "If everything works out, the paving will be done in October," said William Sember, the authority's director of operations.

The work also include additional paving on Southpointe Boulevard north.

When the Range Resources and Embassy Park projects are completed later this year, the number of employees in the new section of the park will jump to 2,000 making the total close to 7,000 working in Southpointe.  That's 16,000 cars entering and leaving Southpointe 9AM to 6PM daily.
